Feline Kidney Disease: Yes,There Is Hope!

Feline Kidney disease: yes there is hope,

even though chronic kidney failure is an irreversible disease. The damage to the kidney cannot be fixed. Treatment goals for this form of kidney disease focus on slowing the progression of disease, in some cases for years. Kidney friendly wet food with modified levels of protein and phosphorous are considered key elements of treatment, as is maintaining hydration with subcutaneous fluids as needed.

I personally have had six of my own cats develop kidney disease and in all cases, they lived from several months to several years after the initial diagnosis. You can do a lot for your own cats as I did for mine. You don’t have to be a veterinarian to care for your kitty cat at home. CeCe lived comfortably for another 10 months with stage four kidney disease.

Kidney failure in cats is a scary and challenging disease.  Although the challenges can be daunting, as pet parents you should take heart that vigilance does pay off. As noted, many of my cats have lived a happy life for a long time after the initial diagnosis. TIP! Regular vet visits are very important for your cat’s health. They should go at least once yearly for a check-up, and more often if they need any shots.

Awareness of the clinical signs of kidney disease is also crucial to your cat’s long term health. Any changes in water intake or more trips to the litter box warrants a call to to your vet, as does weight loss, vomiting, and bad breath. In addition to kidney failure, these are also signs seen in another common cat disease, diabetes. In both cases, early intervention leads to a longer life. If you have any questions or concerns, you should always visit or call your veterinarian — they are your best resource to ensure the health and well-being of your pets.

Never give up hope! Merck’s Veterinary Manual states “With appropriate therapy, animals can survive for long periods with only a small fraction of functional renal tissue, perhaps 5-8% in dogs and cats.”

Hello and welcome pet parents to my best cat food guide for Feline Kidney Disease. If your kitty cat has been diagnosed with chronic renal failure (kidney failure), please accept my sincere sympathy.

Having gone through the experience of caring for our beautiful CeCe for almost a year with CKD, our current cats are benefiting from what I have learned and continue to learn, and I’ll be sharing everything I can with you here to help your kitty buy months or even years of quality life

Even though kidney failure in cats is a terminal disease, it depends how severe your cats disease has progressed. One of the best things to do to help is to have your cat eat the best cat food possible. The brands of food that I will be recommending, along with the help of your Vet can slow the progression and make your cats time more comfortable. Therefore with some effort, a lot of TLC and dedication, this disease maybe managed effectively for some time. Always consult with your Vet before beginning  any course of treatment.

Please remember, your kitty cat has to eat every day and stay hydrated. Also very important, is to make your cat’s environment is as Stress-Free as possible. Best of luck with your CKD journey!

If your cat appears to be in any pain or distress, do not waste time on the internet, contact your vet immediately.
